His dreams and life goals carried President Obama to the US mainland. But his soul and spirit are rooted here.

Young Barry has moved on from the islands,
but the islands have not moved out of his heart.

The world knows him as the 44th President
of the United States of America
Many folks in Honolulu just know him as Barry.
When talking story of the old days, he's Barry.

He traveled to Kenya to find his Roots.
He traveled from Hawaii to let his Roots bear fruit.

This website is intended to provide insights into Barry's Hawaii roots. His Home Squared.

We are S & D (Sandy & Dennis) you can go to the Our Life page to learn more about us than you may want to know. Hopefully, it won't bore you. Most of this website is done by D, because I (D) have the greater interest in this and S is busy with her studies, fitness and other matters.

Rather recently, I developed an interest in President Obama. Because of this and to encourage my interest, one of my daughters suggested I read Dreams from My Father. She felt I would relate to the book and to him. I do. I am now on Page 394 (of 457). This is an accomplishment for someone who rarely can sit down long enough to read a book. When I finish, I plan to go on to read The Audacity of Hope.

First, I like President Obama. 2nd, I did not vote for him and I did not vote for his main competitor (McCain) either. The reasons for this are the realities of Tip O’Neill's remarks on the locality of politics.

Reasons I relate to President Obama
1) I believe he is pragmatic and realistic. This appears to be a trait lacking in many politicians.
2) He grew up in Hawaii. I maintained a residence in Hawaii from 1969 to 1976 and from 2003 until the present.
3) He knows the streets and understands the feelings of the people and politics of Chicago. I grew up in Chicago, spent four years with the Chicago Police (Martin Luther King & Democratic Convention '68) and was the token white in a computer systems society.
4) His travels to the villages of Kenya have had an influence on him. While I have never visited Africa, my long stays in China, Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries bring many parralles.
I have lived for more than 20 years outside the USA.
The reality. I do this by myself. I am slow. I have more claims to A.D.D. than to computer literacy. I go to the Public Library and do my own research. I Google a lot. I relate to Woody Hayes. Unfortunately, a little more to the Cloud of Dust than the 3 Yards part.
