The Superferry.

If you are new to Hawaii and seek to understand its reality, update yourself on the Superferry Saga. Its future is still unknown as it tries to survive the inter island water ways that became very murky shortly after it set sail. All side claim unfair and all try to position themselves as victims.
We have heard the arguments of those who say it will only benefit Big Business and we disagree. We believe, it is sensible for the residents of Hawaii to have as many modes of inter island transportation available as possible. The people who will benefit most are local families who want to visit Auntie on an outer island and the outer island small business people who cannot afford to buy a whole container of goods at one time.

When we visited the harbor in Kauai, we saw very large container ships and Cruise ships docking there. Each of these ships appeared to be around five times larger than the Superferry. We wonder why these Super Size Ships are no problem to the environment, while the much smaller Superferry is. It makes one think the people opposing the superferry for environmental reasons have ulterior motives.

We heard the arguments of those opposing the Superferry, many seemed to have narrow protectionist mentalities as they made comments such as, "We don't want other guys surfing on our beach."

We believe in a free market economy and re anti protectionist. Also, we personally do not believe, Hawaii has a large enough population base and tourist base to support the Superferry at the planned ticket price. We would be happy to be proved wrong. We believe If the local people do not use the Superferry it will die. Let's see what happens.

We have seen several reports stating Hawaii has an anti business reputation. We feel this circumstance causes all of us to pay more for basic goods. This in turn hurts the poor who use a greater percentage of their take home pay for basics.

We'll see what happens. The website: http://www.hawaiisuperferry.com/

Remember these Magic Island Trees?

AM3

Magic Island Trees
Take a good look at them here.
They may not be there when you come.

Recently, both major Honolulu newspapers reported
a new conservation group, with the moniker, Blue Planet Festival,
has petitioned the City to remove these trees or similar ones on petite Magic Island.
The reason? So they can hold a Fund Raising concert to "Save the Environment"
We wonder how much the coffers of the group will be enriched?
And how much the Blue Planet leaders will pocket.
One gets the feeling
this group is more about using public lands
to make a quick profit rather than saving the environment.
Maybe the group should be called "Gray Planet"
It sounds to us the group's main concern is making money.
Come on guys, "Save the Trees."
If this plan is true, it sure is a LuLu!
We suggest two "L's" for Lunacy and Larceny be proper?
Is this the reason HonoLuLu has two "L's"?

Today's prayer:
"Oh Lord, please save me from those who seek to save me!"
